“Circular Economy and combating waste” is the theme of the webinar scheduled for Tuesday, July 2nd, at 9:30 am, with the participation of Rui Rio, head of the Hygio-Sanitary Inspection Office of Social Action Services at the University of Coimbra, and Elsa Martins, trainer at the Vila Real de Santo António School of Hotel and Tourism and entrepreneur.
The circular economy and combating food waste are fundamental to global sustainability. The circular economy promotes reuse, recycling and waste reduction, reducing pressure on natural resources and stimulating innovation and competitiveness.
In the food context, combating waste is crucial, as around a third of food produced globally is wasted. In Portugal, there are initiatives that reduce food waste, contribute to food security, save resources and have a positive impact on the environment, helping to mitigate climate change and promote a more sustainable and resilient future.
This will be the theme of the 6th webinar of the INCOMUN Project - Innovation and KNOWLEDGE in the rural WORLD - and will take place on Tuesday, July 2nd, from 9:30 am this link.
Since January 2004, Rui Rio has been responsible for the Hygio-Sanitary Inspection Office of the Social Action Services at the University of Coimbra – services that are responsible for providing around one million meals per year to the university community.

INCOMUN – INNOVATION AND KNOWLEDGE IN THE RURAL WORLD is a cooperation project that results in the development of a pilot initiative, which aims to carry out an exhaustive analysis of territories and test ways of transferring knowledge to rural territories, naturally taking into account their specificities .
The proposed intervention is based on four main axes (Knowing, Empowering, Incorporating and Disseminating), to which a set of activities is associated, which allow the main purpose to be operationalized: to create conditions so that it is possible to mobilize the relevant actors of the scientific community and, through through the mediation of GALs, revitalize and enhance communities and rural territories through the introduction, production and transfer of innovation and knowledge.
Despite the partnership having a different geographic location, the problems and needs felt are common: the project partners believe that territorial cohesion should not be analyzed solely based on the interior/coastal dichotomy.
Incomun is a cooperation project developed by:
A2S – Association for the Sustainable Development of the Saloia Region
ADAE — Alta Estremadura Development Association,
ADIBER — Beira Serra Integrated Development Association
AdriMinho — Integrated Rural Development Association of Vale do Minho
GAL Aveiro North and GAL Aveiro South
CoimbraMaisFuturo – Local Development
Esdime – Agency for Local Development in Southwest Alentejo
In Loco Association – ADL managing the Local Action Group for the Interior of the Central Algarve
It has the support of PDR 2020, being co-financed under Measure 10.3.1 – Interterritorial and Transnational Cooperation of Local Action Groups (GAL) of PDR2020.
