Firefighters from Aljezur, Lagos and Vila do Bispo train cliff rescue

This Sunday, June 16th

Firefighters from Aljezur, Lagos and Vila o Bispo participated this Sunday, June 16, in a cliff rescue exercise, in conjunction with the National Maritime Authority.

The sinking of a vessel, with three crew members on board, resulted in a request for assistance in rescuing a cliff near Montes Clérigos beach: this was the scenario created by the Aljezur Firefighters with the aim of putting into practice the knowledge acquired by the teams specialized in this type of cliff rescue.

«This scenario created allows these specialized teams to train in real scenarios and, in this way, put into practice the different techniques that rescues require», explains one of the firefighters.

«Increasingly, firefighters are subjected to highly complex situations and incidents, and it is these types of exercises that allow them to test their preparation, both on a technical, physical and psychological level», he continues, stressing that in the Algarve area , namely in the Barlavento Algarvio and Costa Vicentina, there are several trails where many people pass daily «although several pedestrian areas have been created».

The exercise began at 9:00 am and by 11:45 am all victims had been successfully rescued by the fire brigade teams.
