AMAL and Instituto Superior de Agronomia will create a Fuel Management Plan for the Algarve

Within the scope of the FIREPOCTEP+ project

AMAL (Algarve Intermunicipal Community) and the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) have just signed an agreement to prepare the Algarve Intermunicipal Fuel Management Plan (PIGCAlg).

Through this collaboration, a fuel management plan will be developed for the Algarve region, which includes, among other aspects, tools for simulating fire behavior and optimizing the location of fuel treatments.

The Plan will also incorporate the knowledge and priorities of local actors in defining the areas and timing of fuel management and will integrate information on existing fuel management resources (eg, machinery, sappers, controlled fire technicians), costs associated with fuel management and the definition of available options for fuel management in each treatment unit.

The FIREPOCTEP+ project (Resilient landscape in the face of large forest fires: responding to emergencies, improving interoperability and strengthening operational and social capacities in the face of climate change) is an example of cross-border cooperation, committed to preserving the environment and socioeconomic growth of the regions involved .
