Popular marches and festivals return to liven up Portimão in June

There will be parades in the three parishes of the municipality

Popular marches inspired by the city's centenary and festivals will mark the month of June, in Portimão, with the entertainment starting this Saturday, the 1st, at 22pm, with a parade at the Portimão Arena, and passing through the three parishes of the municipality until on the 00th.

«With free entries, limited to the capacity of the venue, this parade marks the start of one of the most popular festivals in the municipality, and will be enhanced by perched arches and colorful costumes, rhythmic melodies and contagious dances, with the music being provided by the Sociedade Filarmónica Portimonense», according to the Portimão Chamber.

In addition to this first parade, there will be five more, scheduled for the 7th (Football field at the Mexilhoeira Grande Sports Complex), 14th (Alvor riverside area), 16th (Montes de Alvor Sports Pavilion), 21st (Praia da Rocha, next to the Fortaleza de Santa Catarina) and 28 (riverside area of ​​Portimão, next to the Clube Naval».

Marches from Vila de Alvor, the Clube de Instrução e Recreio Mexilhoeirense, Sociedade Recreativa Figueirense and Sporting Glória ou Morte Portimonense will take part in the parades, which will be joined by marches invited by the Associação dos Amigos da Pedreira (Silves), the Centro de Culture and Sports for Workers of the Lagos City Council and the Odiáxere Sports Club (Lagos).

The festivals, as they are local, will take place at Praça da República, in the city center, on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 28th, between 19pm and 00am,

On the 8th of June, the poster features the Portimão Music Academy (19pm) and the musician Pedro Miguel (00pm).

On the 15th, the Grupo de Cante Alentejano do Centro Comunitário do Bairro Pontal (19pm) and the duo Ricardo e Idalécia (00pm) perform, and on the 22nd the Grupo de Cantares Vozes do Glória (00pm) and Marcelo Rio (22pm) take to the stage.

The last festival takes place on June 28th, the eve of St. Peter's Day, with the lineup featuring Grupo Coral de Portimão (19pm) and the musical duo Nuno and Fernando Mário (00pm).

In addition to the musical entertainment, food and drink stalls will operate in Praça da República, run by Sociedade Vencedora Portimonense, Clube União Portimonense, Clube Desportivo e Recreativo da Pedra Mourinha and Sporting Glória ou Morte Portimonense.

The celebrations of the Popular Saints are organized by the Municipality, together with the Parish Councils of Portimão, Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande, and «rely on the commitment of the communities involved in mobilizing hundreds of people from all age groups and social backgrounds» .
