Hundreds of people gathered, on the 9th and 10th of May, in Albufeira, to debate various issues around the theme “Education” and the involvement of the entire community in the construction, development and co-responsibility of the Local Educational Project, a document structure conveyed by the Network of Educating Cities, of which Albufeira has been part since 2007.

The seminar “Everyone, everyone at PEL” was organized by the PEL thematic group – Local Educational Project of the Municipality of Albufeira and also discussed the involvement of the migrant community, as well as representatives of school groups and those responsible for the National Education Council (CNE ), the General Directorate of Education (DGE), the Agency for Integration, Migrations and Asylum (AIMA IP), the Local Center for the Integration of Migrants (CLAIM) and the Associação Alegria de Leste.

The initiative was attended by representatives from several Municipalities, namely Águeda, Almada, Almodôvar, Braga, Évora, Lagoa, Loulé, Lisbon, Loures, Odemira, Oeiras, Pampilhosa da Serra, Santo Tirso, Sesimbra, Santa Maria Feira, Torres Vedras, Tábua, Vila Nova de Famalicão and Valongo.

At the opening of the meeting, José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, recalled that he has always been an enthusiast of the Educating Cities network and that he hopes that the conclusions resulting from this meeting “will result in concrete actions in favor of communities”.

For her part, the councilor for Education of the Municipality of Albufeira Cláudia Guedelha stressed that the organization of this meeting «on the one hand, demonstrated the dynamism that exists in Albufeira in the educational area and, on the other, it allowed us to dialogue with other responsible people and with other experiences, in order to improve our work and be equally interlocutors with the other partners».

If on the first day the PEL was highlighted, on the second the attention focused on the national meeting of the Portuguese Territorial Network of Educating Cities, with the aim of preparing Portuguese participation in the XVII International Congress of Educating Cities, in Curitiba, from the 21st to 24th of May, and where Albufeira will be present.

Several documents were also approved and Portuguese was voted as one of the network's official languages. Another highlight was the presence of Sheila Gonzalez, from the University of Barcelona, author of the “Methodological Guide” for building an educating city.

Alongside the work, there were also recreational moments, such as a visit to the Zoomarine educational program and the Cerro do Ouro Educational Center, where, as in previous years, Spike Day was celebrated, with flowers and seeds from the field, the pair gastronomy with the flavor of tradition. There is also time for a cultural dinner with moments of poetry, dance and music provided by students of various nationalities from the municipality of Albufeira.

From the various conclusions, the Municipality of Albufeira highlights the need to prioritize the teaching of the Portuguese language as the project's intervention axis, as well as the need to continue working on the integration of everyone, so that Education is a responsibility of everyone and for everyone .

In addition, the working group considered that despite there being a lot of work to do, all the actions and projects carried out have constituted added value in the development of the different Projects in the various national territories.

The seminar culminated in the transfer of coordination of the working group from Albufeira to the municipality of Oeiras, which will now take over the coordination of this group for two years.
