Government will hire 108 more bailiffs

In April, the Superior Council of the Judiciary had also warned about the lack of judicial employees in Portugal

The Government announced today the immediate recruitment of 108 new judicial officers, to meet the needs of the judicial system and respond to the sector's demands.

In a statement, the Ministry of Justice explains that “the immediate recruitment of 108 workers” was approved, who will be “selected through an external competition”, to “integrate the personnel maps of the Judicial Secretariats and the Public Ministry, in the short term”.

«Hiring will be done using the recruitment reserve that resulted from the previous external competition, held in 2023, in which not all successful candidates were hired», can be read in the statement.

This month, the Minister of Justice Rita Alarcão Júdice met with the Union of Justice Officers, a structure that has already promoted strikes in the recent past to demand raises, the enhancement of careers and the hiring of more staff.

At the beginning of the month, judicial officials also held a congress, approving conclusions that envisaged a fighting strategy «based on achieving immediate gains in financial terms, but in a fair way», and on the revaluation of the profession, «fighting for working conditions that allow for the urgent and successful recruitment of new colleagues».

In April, the Superior Council of the Judiciary had also warned about the lack of judicial employees in Portugal.
