The Historical Festival “Vila Real de Santo António Setecentista” is almost here

With the exception of the banquet, all events have free entry

Vila Real de Santo António will host, starting this Friday, May 17th, the second edition of the Historical Festival “Vila Real de Santo António Setecentista”.

From the recreations, to the processions, shows, entertainment, markets and banquets, there will be no shortage of reasons to get to know the daily life of the town in the 18th century, highlight its historical and cultural importance and see all the period characters.

With free entry, this is a new anchor event, promoted by the Chamber of Vila Real de Santo António, which promises three days of travel to the past, in a unique environment and setting, made up of the urban layout of the historic area and the grandeur of Praça Marquês de Pombal and the riverfront.

The processions through the streets of the Historic Center will be one of the highlights of the event, reviving a tradition already rooted in the city, with the participation of hundreds of people. The first takes place on the 18th (Saturday), at 18:30 pm, while the second parade, at night, takes place on Sunday, the 19th, from 20:30 pm.

Throughout the weekend, there will be theater-circus entertainment, with different scenic environments, portraying historical episodes or scenes from everyday life on the 11 stages prepared for this purpose. Also noteworthy is the baroque music concert, on the opening day, at the Main Church, with the Ensemble en Trio Statera, and the baroque dance shows throughout the event.

At the market, fresh delicacies and sweet delicacies will be sold, in addition to traditional handicrafts. All this will be topped off with entertainment for the youngest.

On Saturday, the 18th, one of the highlights of the night will be the banquet, at the António Aleixo Cultural Center. Here, diners will have the opportunity to enjoy the refinement and magic of a dish in honor of D. José I. Protocols, etiquette, gastronomy of the time and varied shows are part of the menu.

In addition to an intense entertainment program, the last day of the festival, on May 19th (Sunday), ends with a flourish: a grand final spectacle of videomapping, on Avenida da República, facing the Guadiana River, where there will be no shortage of color, light and music.

With the exception of the banquet, all events have free entry.
