House 1923, from Faro, wins National Urban Rehabilitation Award

The 1923 House, in Faro, was distinguished this Wednesday with a 2024 National Urban Rehabilitation Award, in the “less than 1.000 square meters” category, at the award ceremony, which took place at Casa da Arquitetura, in Matosinhos, on Wednesday night.

The renovation work on the building Faro was one of the ten interventions distinguished in this year's edition of the awards organized by the publication “Vida Imobiliária” – the others are located in Funchal, Lisbon, Ponta Delgada and Porto.

In 2024, 80 urban rehabilitation interventions competed for this award, from 23 municipalities from the north to the south of the country, mainland and islands.

The construction and installation of the Graça Funicular was distinguished in the “City of Lisbon” category.

In a statement, the Lisbon City Council, through vice-president Filipe Anacoreta Correia, considers that the distinction “is the recognition of a fantastic project, which reflects, among other things, the city's aspiration to overcome the obstacles and challenges of its Hills".

Opened on March 12th, the Graça Funicular has already transported more than 95 thousand passengers, on more than ten thousand trips, according to data from the municipality.

The capital won two more awards, for Palácio Silva Amado, in the “Residential” category, and for A'Tower, in the “Sustainability” area.

The “City of Porto” category was awarded to the rehabilitation of the Alexandre Herculano Secondary School, which also won in the “Social Impact” category.

Porto also received two other awards, for the lower deck of the Luiz I Bridge, over the Douro River, in the “Structural Rehabilitation” category, and for the Cedofeita Palace – Rehabilitation of Casa Honório de Lima, in the “Restoration” category. .

For the islands, there were distinctions in the “Touristic” categories, for the Hotel Vila Galé Collection, in São Miguel, Ponta Delgada, Azores, and “Commercial and Services”, for Caixa Geral de Depósitos – Funchal Sé, in Funchal, Madeira.

According to the same information, the National Urban Rehabilitation Award – Masters of Construction, which has the support and curation of architect Eduardo Souto de Moura and which distinguishes professionals who stand out in the execution of their art and craft, was awarded this year to the company of stucco and ornamentation from Viana do Castelo Nestor&Nestor.
