Quarteira athletes eliminated in the first round of the BMX World Championship

Alexandre Almeida considers that «these were results that we do not want to happen again»

Junior Bernardo Rocha and under-23 Renato da Silva, from Team BMX Quarteira, were eliminated in the first round of the BMX World Championship, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, United States of America.

According to the Portuguese Cycling Federation, Renato da Silva «made a technical error in the qualifying race, losing speed in the first straight» and, therefore, found himself relegated to the repechage race – Last Chance Qualifier -, in which «he had a good start, but he couldn't be fast enough to reach the round of 16.

Bernardo Rocha's journey in the junior competition was similar. In the repechage race, the young Portuguese «entered the first corner well, but was not fast enough on the track to get the passport to the next phase of this World Cup».

The national BMX selector believes that the Portuguese did not have a good experience in the United States of America.

«We didn't have the necessary time to adapt to a difficult track and our athletes ended up finding it difficult to reach maximum speed in different sectors of the track», explains the coach.

Alexandre Almeida considers that «these were results that we do not want to happen again».

«We will continue to work to improve the preparation and experience of these runners», adds the selector.
