Algarve has «very interesting potential» for the production and consumption of renewable gases [with video]

Opportunities around renewable gases will be the topic of a conference in Faro

The Algarve has «very interesting potential, not only for the production of renewable gases, but also for the consumption of these same renewable gases». This is stated by Miguel Faria, COO of Floene, a gas company that will promote the conference “Renewable Gas Opportunities – New Businesses, Skills and Professions”, on May 22nd, in the auditorium of the Municipal Library of Faro, between 9:00 and 13:00.

«We are talking about decentralized production, for decentralized consumption, a significant generation of employment and with all the environmental and economic impact that this decarbonization roadmap via renewable gases will have and the Algarve will also have a very important role», he said the same person responsible.

For Miguel Faria, «renewable gases will play a leading role in the decarbonization of the Portuguese economy. We will be able, only through the recovery of waste, attention, through a circular economy, to guarantee the total decarbonization of gas consumption in Portugal».

The company manager explains that «a gas that today has a fossil origin will have a renewable origin through this recovery of waste, which is nothing more than decentralized production, decentralized consumption, with a significant environmental, social and economic impact».

“We know that there is more than enough waste for this total decarbonization,” he adds.

With renewable gases, «people will continue to have access to a way of heating their homes, their water and cooking in a cheaper way».

Also at an economic level, he considers, decentralized production will have an impact, because «there will be significant job creation here» that can help combat the region's «seasonality problem».

The conference is open to the public and registrations can be made here
