Around 20% of AD deputies are part of the Government, which has three Marcelo consultants

Secretaries of State take office today

Of the 80 deputies elected by PSD and CDS-PP, 16 will be part of the XXIV Constitutional Government, adding to the seven who had already taken office as ministers and the nine nominated on Thursday as secretaries of State.

With functions until now in Belém, the executive led by Luís Montenegro will be part of the economic consultant of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Hélder Reis, who will be Secretary of State for Regional Development, and Nuno Sampaio, political consultant, who will be Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

Inês Domingos, also a consultant to the current President until assuming office as a deputy, will be Secretary of State for European Affairs.

Among the ministers who took office on Tuesday, there were already six deputies from the PSD bench who left for the Government: the head of the list for Lisbon and prime minister-designate, Luís Montenegro, the second and third candidates for the capital, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento and Ana Paula Martins, and the top list for Viseu, António Leitão Amaro, for Faro, Miguel Pinto Luz, and for Coimbra, Rita Júdice.

From the CDS-PP bench, President Nuno Melo, now Minister of National Defense, had already passed to the Government.

According to the list of 41 secretaries of State proposed by the Prime Minister, and already accepted by the President of the Republic, there are eight more deputies from the PSD and one from the CDS-PP to join the government list.

In other words, in total, 20% of the 80 deputies from the two benches will have to be replaced as they assume government functions.

In addition to Inês Domingos, the leader of the list of the Democratic Alliance (pre-electoral coalition PSD, CDS-PP and PPM) for the circle outside Europe, José Cesário, returns to the Secretariat of State for Communities.

The head of the list for Bragança, Hernâni Dias, will be Secretary of State for Local Administration, and number two for Setúbal, Paulo Simões Ribeiro, Secretary of State for Civil Protection, while the one elected by Lisbon Alexandre Homem Cristo will be Deputy Secretary of State and Education.

Clara Marques Mendes, elected by Braga, will be the Secretary of State for Social Action and Inclusion, and the head of the list for Aveiro, Emídio Sousa, Secretary of State for the Environment, while the until now deputy for Santarém João Moura will occupy the secretariat of State for Agriculture.

From the CDS-PP, Álvaro Castello-Branco, elected by Porto, and who had replaced Nuno Melo on the bench, will end up not taking up his place in parliament to be Deputy Secretary of State and National Defense.

Five secretaries of State come directly from coordinators of the PSD's National Strategic Council, the support body for the leadership that prepared the electoral program and which was led by Pedro Duarte, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs.

Inês Domingos, who worked at CEN in the area of ​​Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Digitalization; Nuno Sampaio, who coordinated Foreign Policy, Diaspora and European Affairs at CEN; João Silva Lopes, who worked in the Environment and Sustainability areas, will be Secretary of State for the Treasury and Finance; Ana Isabel Xavier, who coordinated National Defense at CEN, will occupy this State secretariat in the XXIV Constitutional Government and Cristina Vaz Tomé, CEN coordinator for Economy and Companies will be Secretary of State for Health Management.

The inauguration of the Secretaries of State is scheduled for 18:00 pm, at the Ajuda National Palace, in Lisbon.

The prime minister and the 17 ministers of the XXIV Constitutional Government took office on Tuesday.
