University of Algarve joins the Navy for new mission in favor of the sea

CIMA and LUAV collected profiles of temperature, salinity, depth and presence of chlorophyll

The Portuguese Navy and the University of Algarve (UAlg) carried out a joint mission on March 18th, through the Southern Maritime Zone Command, to collect oceanographic data.

The research group CIMA (Center for Marine and Environmental Research) from UAlg and its LUAV (Light Underwater Autonomous Vehicle) boarded the NRP Cassiopeia to obtain data for modeling work on the oceanographic dynamics of the Algarve region, collecting profiles of temperature, salinity, depth and presence of chlorophyll.

In a note, the Navy emphasizes that the results of this work «will allow us to obtain more knowledge about the sea and use it more effectively, for example, in an even more sustainable management of aquaculture production in the open sea».
