Book “The adventure of the lynx Leonardo” presented in Martim Longo

The book is the result of the environmental education project about the Iberian lynx “The Guardians of the Lynx”

The Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF) and Escola Básica Professor Joaquim Moreira, in Martim Longo, will launch the book “The adventure of the Leonardo lynx”, on March 18th, at 14:30 pm, at this school .

The book is the result of an environmental education project about the Iberian lynx, “Os Guardianões do Lince”, carried out at the Escola Básica Integrada de Martim Longo, thanks to the participation of teachers Patrícia Correia and Cecília Vargas, and which involved three classes from the 5th and 6th year.

According to the regional direction of the Conservation of Nature and Forests of the Algarve, during the 2022/2023 academic year, students met the Iberian lynx in the classroom and on field trips, where they explored its habitat, identified signs of their presence and learned about ICNF's monitoring of the lynx population.

In Visual Education classes, students had the opportunity to draw scenes from “The adventure of Leonardo the lynx”, becoming the illustrators of this story, which was written by Ana Xavier, an ICNF technician.

In addition to the short story, the book recounts the experience of the Guardians of the Lynx and the phrases that the little illustrators dedicated to the Iberian lynx.

The environmental education project “The Guardians of the Lynx” is part of a larger project, the LIFE Lynxconnect project (2020-2025), which has several Portuguese and Spanish partners and whose main objective is to continue the recovery process of the lynx -Iberian, which was once extinct in Portugal and very threatened in Spain.
