The Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) awarded the study for the proposed route metrobus between Faro-Olhão-Airport-University of Algarve-Parque das Cidades-Loulé.

With the execution of the Base Program (a document prepared by the designer), «the study of the route, the proposed location of the stops, the standard vehicle established, the estimate of the construction costs of infrastructures and rolling stock will be defined», says the CCDR, in a press release.

This is, moreover, the second methodological step towards the Base Program.

The proposed route

«The study to be developed will have the degree of detail inherent to the base program phase and will have to be validated by the Municipalities involved», adds the CCDR.

Considered a priority in the Algarve 2030 Regional Program, the planned project has a preliminary length of approximately 38 kilometers and will serve around 150 thousand residents, uniting Olhão-Faro-Airport-University of Algarve (Campus de Gambelas)-Parque das Cidade-Loulé.

According to the route presented, the metrobus will have 24 stops, and will connect the center of Loulé to Olhão Station, with passages in the city of Faro, at the Airport, in both fields Farenses at the University of Algarve and in Parque das Cidades.

All of this, on 100% dedicated lines, with frequencies every 12 minutes, during rush hour, and during extended hours.
