Toll prices on the A22 and other ex-SCUT drop from today

Reduction is around 30% compared to prices in force at the end of 2023 for light vehicles and 22,6% for freight and passenger transport during the day.

Tolls for the former SCUT in the Interior and Algarve have a price reduction of up to 30% for light vehicles from today and compared to prices until December 31st, according to a Government order.

According to the Government, these new discounts cover sections and sub-sections of motorway 22 (former SCUT do Algarve or Via do Infante), A23 (in Beira Interior), A24 (in the Interior North) and A25 (in Beira Litoral/Beira Alta ).

They also now have the same conditions for reducing toll rates on the ex-SCUT do Interior roads, sections and subsections of highway 4 (A4) Transmontana and Túnel do Marão and highways 13 (A13) and A13-1, in Pinhal Interior.

The Ministry of Territorial Cohesion (MCT) reported that the reduction is around 30% compared to prices in force at the end of 2023 for light vehicles and 22,6% for freight and passenger transport during the day.

At night, weekends and holidays, freight and passenger transport maintain the same prices in force last year.

These reduction values do not take into account increases resulting from inflation, as stipulated in the concession contracts in force.

According to the Government, the reduction will be most felt on the A4 Transmontana and Túnel do Marão motorways and the A13 and A13-1 Pinhal Interior, because “they had not been covered by the last price reduction of 2021”.

These highways were considered roads at no cost to the user (SCUT) until 2011, when they began to be paid for by motorists.

According to MCT accounts, the discounts started in 2021 for users of these highways reached 2023% in 50 in relation to the price charged when payments began in 2011.

Thus, in relation to 2011, the discount applied from today reduces the “50% in force to 65%, which represents, compared to today's prices, a reduction of around 30%”.

“The same rationale applies to the transport of goods and passengers, although these classes of vehicles already have different and more significant reduction values”, explained the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion, in a note

Therefore, according to the MCT, the reduction defined in 2021 and in force until the end of 2023 was already 57,5% during the day and 70% during the night, weekends and holidays, compared to the values of 2011.

With the new ordinance, the reduction goes from 57,5% to 65%, which represents a reduction of around 22,6%, compared to 2023 prices, with the 70% reduction at night remaining unchanged.
