Two colder nights are coming

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the values will be lower «especially in valley or more sheltered areas».

The nights of this Sunday and Monday, December 17th and 18th, will be colder across the country due to the influence of an anticyclone located in the north of the Iberian Peninsula.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the values will be lower «especially in valley or more sheltered areas».

Therefore, the minimum temperature is expected to reach values below 0°C in much of the North and Central interior, between 0 and 3°C in the South interior and between 3 and 7°C on the coast.

«The maximum temperature, on the other hand, should be within or even slightly above normal for the time of year, with values between 7 and 13°C expected in the North and Center interior and between 13 and 17°C for the remaining territory. The exception will be in places where fog persists during the day in the northeast of Trás-os-Montes and Beira Alta, where the maximum temperature may not exceed 5°C», says the IPMA.

In addition, the occurrence of fog or morning fog is expected, more likely in the North and Central interior and which may persist in some places in the northeast of Trás-os-Montes and Beira Alta.

For this reason, IPMA issued a yellow cold weather warning due to low minimum temperatures in the districts of Bragança, Vila Real, Guarda and Viseu.

Even so, says the IPMA, «minimum temperatures close to 0°C or slightly lower can be felt throughout the country in valley or more sheltered areas, with the formation of frost».

On Tuesday, at the end of the day, a temporary change in the meteorological situation is expected, with the approach and passage of a frontal surface, which will bring an increase in cloudiness and light precipitation, which will result in an increase in the minimum temperature on the 20th. .
