Quarteira students celebrated International Indigenous Forest Day with a walk

The challenge was given to students to find traces of mammals and recognize native forest species

4th year students from the EB1 Francisca de Aragão school, in Quarteira, celebrated, on November 24th, the International Day of the Autochthonous Forest, with an interpretative walk, at the Tôr biodiversity station.

With the aim of providing some information about the importance of the native forest, the challenge was given to the students to find traces of mammals and recognize native forest species.

Participants had the opportunity to understand where the “cork stoppers” come from, to analyze the carob trees, the carob seeds and their seeds, or even to taste the medronho fruit, which at this point is already ripe.

At the end of the walk, the students discovered how to handle fire suppression equipment, through direct contact with a team of Forestry Sappers.
