Vila Real de Santo António begins celebrating Christmas this Thursday, November 30th, with the arrival of Santa Claus at Praça Marquês de Pombal, which will be joined by the inauguration of the lighting in the municipality.
The start of the festivities also includes a flashmob, organized by the Contemporary Ballet Academy, in addition to the launch of fireworks.
Until the 7th of January, Praça Marquês de Pombal will transform into a fun spot for children and adults alike, with Santa Claus's House, children's entertainment, sporting events, culinary tastings and an ice rink.
Daily, between 10am and 00pm, with free entry, Vila Natal will appeal «to everyone's imagination with a series of music and dance shows, craft and gastronomy shows and workshops», says the VRSA Chamber.
Also included in this space, there will be no shortage of a Christmas Market with an area dedicated to sweets and lots of gift ideas, in addition to the usual Craft Shows.
There will also be the presence of the program «Somos Portugal», from TVI, which will be broadcast live from Vila Natal, on December 10th, between 14 pm and 00 pm.
In Santa Rita, the Cacela Heritage Research and Information Center (CIIPC) celebrates Christmas with the workshop «Create your Algarve nativity scene», on the 2nd, at 15pm, which is joined by an exhibition of an «Algarve nativity scene» , built with the residents of Santa Rita, open until the 00th of January.
On Sunday, the 3rd, Cacela Velha hosts a Christmas Market, between 10:30 am and 17:00 pm.
The Association “Santa Rita, our village” also organizes its Christmas Village. The highlight is the market, on the 9th, which is joined by a motorbike parade and the presence of Santa Claus, starting at 15pm. Until the 00th of January, a nativity scene will also be on display in the center of the village of Santa Rita.
The Vicente Campinas Municipal Library also joins the Christmas activities with the workshop «Christmas is a Party», between the 18th and 22nd of December, from 15:00 pm to 17:00 pm.
In 2024, on January 5th, at 11:30 am, Vila Natal receives, as has been tradition, the visit of the Three Kings of Ayamonte. The initiative is part of the Guadiana Eurocity program, strengthening ties and traditions with neighboring Spain.
Another of the highlights of the court celebrations is the Giant Nativity Scene of Vila Real de Santo António, installed at the António Aleixo Cultural Center. The structure can be seen between December 1st and January 7th and has more than 5800 figures.
The Christmas entertainment program in VRSA is organized by the VRSA City Council, in partnership with the municipality's Parish Councils, the municipality's School Groups and local associations and communities.
