This year, Loulé City Council reinforces its concern with reducing the ecological footprint of the Christmas entertainment activities it will promote, bringing the magic of this season to the localities, from December 1st to January 6th, but always thinking about the future of the Planet.
As is tradition, the 1st of December marks the beginning of the entertainment, with the arrival of Santa Claus in Loulé and the opening of Aldeia dos Sonhos, at 15pm.
A parade with lots of color and joy will mark this inauguration, where there will be no shortage of friends of the “Old Man with the White Beard”, such as Mother Christmas, the elves, the workers who work in the toy factory, the reindeer and many other characters.
Then, in the village, at the door of Santa Claus's house, the moment most awaited by the youngest takes place: the distribution of gifts.
This initiative will be repeated the following day, December 2nd, in the city of Quarteira (10 am) and in Almancil (00 pm).
This year, the entertainment centers in the three main locations in the municipality bring some new features. In Loulé, Aldeia dos Sonhos extends over four areas: Cerca do Convento, where an ecological ice rink and a buoy ramp will be installed for the most radical visitors; the Cloisters, where the Christmas train stops; Largo Afonso III, where it will be possible to do tree climbing with a privileged view of the Castle; and Largo de S. Francisco, which this year will host a carousel.
The fanfares with Christmas rhythms, music, entertainers, decoration and lights, the stalls with food, especially the much-loved Christmas sweets, hot chocolate and mulled wine with spices, bring a cozy atmosphere inspired by the Christmas markets that take place do in Northern Europe at this time.
Aldeia dos Sonhos operates during the following hours: Saturday, from 10:30 am to 19:00 pm, and from Tuesday to Friday and Sunday, from 14:30 pm to 19:00 pm. Closed on Monday.
In this municipality, Christmas also takes place by the sea and, in Quarteira, despite the different scenario, the proposals are also exciting. In Praça Natal (Praça do Mar) and Rua Natal (Rua Vasco da Gama), there are Christmas markets and moments of entertainment with music and dance groups, with active participation from the local community.
In Almancil, the festive and supportive spirit of the season can be seen in the emblematic Jardim das Comunidades, a meeting point for different generations and nationalities.
When building these Christmas spaces, the Loulé municipality invested in the use of recycled materials, as well as the reuse of some elements from previous years.
On the other hand, for reasons related to environmental sustainability and the need to save energy, the Christmas lights will only come on on the 6th, and will be on daily, between 17:30 pm and 23:30 pm. On the main arteries of the localities, and in all parishes in the municipality of Loulé, the lights will be an attraction for anyone passing by.
But the Christmas entertainment program that the Municipality of Loulé presents will have other highlights such as the Panda and the Caricas show (10 December), the Feira da Serra (8, 9 and 10 December), the events of Passagem of the Year in Quarteira (from December 28th to January 1st) or the Bolo-Rei Gigante (January 6th).
From November 22nd to January 4th, the “Um Natal Especial” campaign takes place, involving traders from across the Municipality of Loulé, with the main objective of boosting local commerce at what is the most important time of year for shopkeepers.
