Loulé issues a note of condolence over the death of Irineu Rosa Cortes

I was 84 years old

The Municipality of Loulé today expressed its deep regret over the death of Irineu Rosa Cortes, a native of Loulé, «a man from the world of education and very connected to cultural life».

Son of the republican and anti-fascist fighter who was a member of the Administrative Commission that presided over the City Council after the 25th of April, and Loulé merchant José Cabrita Cortes, Irineu left Loulé early to settle in Sintra. However, he never stopped participating in the theatrical movement in his homeland, namely at Atlético, having been one of its promoters.

In addition to being a teacher, he was a poet, having published several books.

«Even before his death, they agreed to donate his vast bibliographic collection to the Municipal Library of Loulé, contributing with this gesture to reinforce the documentary collection there», says the Loulé municipality in a note.

To the bereaved family, Loulé City Council extends its condolences.
