Lagoa honors 430 athletes in another “Sports Gala”

Medals for sporting merit were awarded, gold, silver or bronze

Last Wednesday, November 24th, the “Sports Gala” honored the athletes, students, teams, coaches, teachers, managers, clubs and schools in the municipality of Lagoa who stood out in the 2022/2023 season. 

In total, more than 430 athletes were honored, with medals of sporting merit, gold, silver or bronze.

According to the Chamber of Lagoa, this honor involved world, European, national and regional champions, as well as those who represented national and regional teams.

In addition to awarding sporting merit medals, the Municipality of Lagoa awarded the Career Award, the male athlete of the year award, the female athlete of the year, the coach of the year, the manager of the year, as well as the club of the year, the team of the year and the event of the year.

Throughout the night, 119 sporting merit distinctions were awarded – gold grade, 69 sporting merit distinctions – silver grade and 262 sporting merit distinctions – bronze grade.

One of the highlights of the night was the awarding of the Career Award to José Armando Silva, director of the Associação Cultural e Desportiva Che Lagoense.

The Individual Female Athlete of the Year Award was awarded to Liudmila Babak (canoeing – Kayak Clube Castores do Arade), the individual Athlete of the Year award in the area of ​​Adapted Sports was awarded to Filipe Santos (Adapted Swimming – Lagoa Académico Clube), the The Individual Male Athlete of the Year Award was awarded to Alexandre Bernardo (Badminton – Che Lagoense) and the Individual Coach of the Year Award was awarded to Pedro Guerreiro (Futsal – Sociedade Recreativa Boa União Parchalense).

The Individual Manager of the Year Award was awarded to Nuno Pedro (basketball – Associação Cultural e Desportiva de Ferragudo), the Event of the Year Award was awarded to the Zonal Youth Judo Championship – Academia Judo do Arade, the Collective Team Award of the Year was awarded to the female Futsal team of Sociedade Recreativa Boa União Parchalense and the Collective Club of the Year Award was awarded to Associação Cultural e Desportiva Che Lagoense.

Another moment of great ovation was the appearance on the stage of the World and European champion, Tiago Cantigas, in wheelchair handball.
