Within the scope of the Vilas em Movimento project

In September, the towns of Pereiro and Alcarias, in the municipality of Alcoutim, hosted creative workshops that combined crafts and creativity with social inclusion, as part of the Vilas em Movimento project, financed by Galp and promoted by the Odiana association.

The workshops in question, held with a view to promoting the well-being of the community, were basket weaving and weaving.

The results of the workshops from the Vilas em Movimento project «reflect the creativity and mastery of the participants in cutting sugarcane, handling it in making baskets, and learning techniques in the weaving process», according to Odiana.

The activities take place collectively and «intend, in a playful way, to instigate techniques and the creative capacity of the trainees, with the impetus being to combat isolation and loneliness, with an emphasis on the senior group. The goal is to improve community life through the promotion of cultural and craft activities that add value and innovation to local development and promote social inclusion».

«Vilas em Movimento» is a project financed by the Galp Foundation and promotes innovation and local development as well as social inclusion, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This project, starting in 2022 and lasting until 2024, is being implemented in the municipality of Alcoutim, through Odiana and in collaboration with the Municipality of Alcoutim, «and the objective is to extend it to the municipalities of Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António».
