Silves hosts Symposium of the Spanish Society of Arab Studies

Silves will host, from the 12th to the 15th of October, the XXX Symposium of the Spanish Society of Arab Studies (SEEA), having as its theme mainly the History of Silves in the context of Andalus, as a recognized city, capital and cradle of poetry.

The Symposium will take place at the House of Luso-Arab and Mediterranean Culture, in Silves, with the collaboration of the Center for Luso-Arab Studies of Silves – CELAS, an association with more than 25 years of existence and cultural and scientific contribution in the area of ​​Studies Luso-Arabs.

«The holding of the symposium, which will address themes that fall within the Social, Cultural and Literary History of Garb al-Andalus, in general, and Silves in particular, will constitute a very important enhancement for Silves and the Algarve», highlights CELAS.

In addition to around ten and a half communications from the vast program of the meeting, given by researchers from universities and institutions in both countries, the launch of two publications stands out: “Poemas Arábico-Algarvios”, an unprecedented and duly completed study , which the Brazilian Arabist José Garcia Domingues left unpublished, and the “Anthology of Arab poets from the kingdoms of Silves, Beja and Lisbon”.

The signing of a protocol between CELAS and the Institute of Ibero-Atlântica Culture (ICIA) will also be celebrated.

There will also be a Sufi music show, by the group “Samaa Sufi” from Tariqa Qâdiriyya Boutshishiyya, who will perform for the second time in Silves.

The event has the support of the Municipality of Silves, the Association for Studies and Defense of the Historical-Cultural Heritage of the Municipality of Silves and the Fundación Ibn Tufayl de Estudios Arabes. Participation is free, subject to registration at the opening of the symposium.
