Nobel Prize for Literature awarded to Norwegian Jon Fosse

Announced today by the Swedish Academy

The 2023 Nobel Prize for Literature has been awarded to Norwegian writer Jon Fosse, the Swedish Academy announced today.

Jon Fosse was born in 1959 in Strandebarm, Western Norway. A prolific writer and playwright, he made his debut in 1983 with the novel “Red, Black”, having received several awards throughout his career, including the International Ibsen Prize, the European Literature Prize and the Nordic Council Literature Prize. .

His work, translated into more than forty languages, includes novels, theater, poetry, books for children and essays.

Jon Fosse is also known for works such as “Trilogy” (2014), “Morning and Night” (2015) and “Septology” (2009-2021).

The Nobel Prize for Literature is a prize awarded annually, since 1901, by the Swedish Academy to authors who have made notable contributions to the field of literature, and has a pecuniary value of more than 900 thousand euros.
