Olhão celebrates Animal Week with the inauguration of the new Levante dog park

Local authority promotes activities until Saturday

The celebration of Animal Week began in Olhão this Wednesday, October 4th, World Animal Day, with the inauguration of the Levante dog park.

Until next Saturday, there will be many initiatives planned dedicated to four-legged friends and families, in a Municipal organization, in partnership with veterinary clinics and associations supporting animal causes in the municipality.

The new dog park joins the existing one at the Pinheiros de Marim Sports and Leisure Park and, as announced by the president of the municipality, António Miguel Pina, is integrated into a network that will provide the municipality with a total of eight spaces in this area. nature within six months.

The future dog parks will be located in the Turolhão, Custódia Mendes and Quinta João de Ourém urbanizations, next to the Pechão and Fuseta sports centers and next to the Lusitano Ginásio Clube Moncarapachense football field.

As the mayor explained, «the creation of this network of dog parks throughout the municipality meets the increase in the number of pets and aims to respond to the desires expressed by many residents, who expressed the need to have spaces dedicated to dogs. their animals, where they can enjoy more freedom, have fun and exercise».

 

 

Regarding the work that has been developed within the scope of animal welfare, António Miguel Pina highlighted that, «in the last two years, we have been developing efforts to increase the response capacity of two very important sectors: Medical-Veterinary Office, where the number of sterilizations and consultations increased exponentially; and the construction of the new Official Animal Collection Center, an investment of more than 1,2 million euros that will be opened very soon».

The mayor also recalled the 50% increase in support granted by the municipality to associations supporting animal causes, and the creation of a permanent service for collecting lost or abandoned animals as important steps taken in the last two years in this area.
