Eight municipalities in the Algarve and two in the Alentejo at maximum risk of fire

IPMA predicts a small increase in maximum temperature in the South region

The Algarve municipalities of Aljezur, Lagos, Monchique, Portimão, Silves, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira present a maximum danger of rural fire this Sunday, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

There are also two municipalities in the Portalegre district – Marvão and Portalegre – also at maximum risk.

IPMA also placed more than fifty municipalities in the districts of Bragança, Guarda, Vila Real, Viseu, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Portalegre, Lisbon, Beja and Faro in very high danger.

Most other municipalities in all districts of the continent are currently at high risk of fire.

This risk, determined by IPMA, has five levels, ranging from low to maximum and the calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.

The IPMA predicts light cloudy skies for today, with a small drop in temperature on the coast of the North and Center regions and a small rise in the maximum temperature in the South region.

Forecasts indicate that minimum temperatures will vary between 13ºC (Braga) and 22ºC (Portalegre) and maximum temperatures between 28ºC (Viana do Castelo and Guarda) and 36ºC (Santarém, Setúbal and Sines).
