The book “Vítor Tenazinha – Brioso, Valoroso, Combativo”, written by Neto Gomes and which pays homage to this cyclist from Loulé, will be presented on October 14th, starting at 11:30 am, at the Solar da Música Nova Auditorium, in Loulé.
This will be an «emotion-filled account of the life of one of the greatest Algarve cyclists of all time, through the writing of another reference in the sport who, during several editions, was the speaker of the Volta a Portugal em Bicicleta», says Loulé City Council .
The book includes written testimonies, newspaper clippings, photographs of family, friends and colleagues.
Vítor José Tenazinha Sousa was born on October 25, 1941, in Boliqueime. From an early age he showed a propensity for cycling. A combative cyclist, he always achieved excellent results and won stages in grand prix and the “Volta a Portugal”. He was part of the Portuguese team that competed in the “Volta a España” in 1962.
In 1965, the last season in which he represented Louletano, he was selected for the “Volta ao Futuro” (France) and obtained 11th place in the “Volta a Portugal”.
He then played for Benfica alongside cyclists such as Peixoto Alves, Francisco Valada, Fernando Mendes, Américo Silva and established himself at Sporting, parading victoriously with João Roque, Leonel Miranda, Sérgio Easter, Firmino Bernardino and Joaquim Agostinho.
After finishing his career, he emigrated to the United States, returning to his homeland to invest in Vilamoura and Quarteira. In 1994, he was awarded the Municipal Medal of Merit – Bronze Degree by Loulé City Council.
Vítor Tenazinha died on September 7, 2022.
The work has a preface by the former President of the Republic, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, a fellow countryman of Tenazinha, and includes messages from the president of Loulé City Council Vítor Aleixo and the president of the Portuguese Cycling Federation Delmino Pereira.
The presentation of the book is preceded by the inauguration of the names of the cyclists who represented the Loulé teams in the Volta a Portugal, between 2000 and 2022, at Rotunda do Ciclista, in front of BP, at 10:30 am.
