Migratory Bird Day marked by the Castro Marim Sapal Natural Reserve and VRSA

Last Sunday, October 22nd

Migratory Bird Day was marked by the Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António Sapal Natural Reserve (RNSCMVRSA) last Sunday, October 22nd.

This day, which has been celebrated since 2006, aims to raise awareness of the importance of conserving species and their habitats, a goal that RNSCMVRSA has been developing since its creation in 1975.

The day was spent in nature, despite the storm that shortened the walk scheduled for the morning, guided by the nature photographer, experienced and interested in bird watching, Agostinho Gomes and the general director of the company Proactivetur João Ministro.

This was followed by the presentation of the photographic book “A Natureza no Mundo”, by photographer Hugo Esteves, one of the collaborators of this work, which celebrates the wonderful world of fauna and flora, all authored by several Portuguese photographers.

The celebrations continued with the lectures “The Secrets of Migration”, by Gonçalo Elias (collaborator in eight ornithological atlases in Portugal and abroad, author or co-author of more than twenty books on Portuguese birds and the best places to observe them, founder and administrator of Fórum Aves, founder and coordinator of the portalavesdeportugal.info), and “Are there more or less water birds along the Eastern Atlantic migratory route?”, by Ornithology professor António Araújo.

This was an action promoted within the scope of RNSCMVRSA Co-management, chaired by the municipality of Castro Marim and which integrates a group of other competent entities, such as the ICNF (Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests), the Mértola Heritage Defense Association and Odiana Association.
