Conference in Castro Marim launches Iberian Meeting of Saramago Readers

The meeting will also take place in VRSA and Ayamonte

The Iberian Meeting of Saramago Readers of Eurocidade do Guadiana, which will take place between the 10th and 12th of November in Ayamonte, Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António, will be launched with a conference given by Carlos Reis, entitled “The Other Saramagos ”, on the 10th, at 18pm, at the Municipal Library of Castro Marim will host

On the same day, the documentary José y Pilar, by Miguel Gonçalves Mendes, will be shown.

«With the aim of giving a voice to Saramago's readers, publicizing the writer's work and thoughts, these meetings are mainly aimed at readers, admirers and scholars of Saramago's work and his life», according to the Chamber of Castro Marim.

Ayamonte and Vila Real de Santo António welcome, on the second day of the Meeting, Saturday, November 11th, the active participation of Saramago readers.

At the end of the afternoon, at the Vicente Campinas Municipal Library, in VRSA, a conference by António José Borges will take place, based on his work “Saramago – Da Cegueira à Lucidez”. The program for the second day of the Meeting ends with the literary performance by Gisela Cañamero and Ricardo Madeira, based on the work “Todos os Nomes”.

On the 12th, the last day of the event, a guided tour is proposed, as part of the Saramago Literary Route in the Algarve, in the municipalities of Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim.

The exhibition “Return to the Steps That Were Given”, with selection and composition of texts by Carlos Reis and Fernanda Costa, and design by André Letria, also includes the meeting program, which can be visited in the three municipal libraries that host the event.

«Reading/celebrating Saramago, is the motto of these sharing meetings, fulfilling the writer's dream: 2It would be perfect to be able to gather in one place, without differences of countries, races, creeds and languages, everyone who reads me, and pass the rest of my days talking to them”», adds the Chamber of Castro Marim.

The 8th Iberian Meeting of Readers Saramago is organized by the Municipal Councils of Castro Marim and VRSA, in partnership with the Municipal Library of Beja – José Saramago and the promoter of Aula Saramago – Diego Mesa, with the support of the Ayuntamiento de Ayamonte, Eurocidade do Guadiana and the José Saramago Foundation.
