On World Music Day, October 1st, TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão welcomes, from 21pm onwards, the Orquestra do Algarve, under the baton of the young maestro Diogo Costa, for a concert where two gems of early romanticism will shine, namely João Domingos Bomtempo and his Symphony No. 00, and the German Felix Mendelssohn through his Symphony No. 2 “Italiana”.

Founded in 2002, Orquestra do Algarve is currently made up of musicians from 14 nationalities, with multiculturalism having been one of its characteristics from the beginning, as it manages to bring together professionals carefully selected in international competitions on stage.

With regular activity, it performs around 90 performances per year, in different formats: classical concerts, concerts with choir, Promenade concerts (aimed at families), pedagogical concerts (school sessions), chamber music concerts, concerts with national maestros and soloists and international guests and also concerts linked to other artistic expressions, such as dance, opera, fado, jazz, cante Alentejano or literature, among others.

The program presented for each season includes works from the Baroque period to the contemporary period, providing different concerts that seek to showcase the breadth and versatility of classical music.

World Music Day was established in 1975 by the International Music Council to promote art and musical diversity in all sectors of society.
