Faro delivery of viaduct project over the line next to Teatro das Figuras to IP

Project foresees different structures for road traffic and for pedestrians and bicycles

The Chamber of Faro handed over to Infraestruturas de Portugal the project for the construction of two overpasses, one for the road and the other for pedestrian and cycling connections, which will eliminate the existing level crossing next to Teatro das Figuras and make access to the city's Riverside Park safer. .

The delivery of this project, which has an estimated cost of 4 million and 600 thousand euros, to be invested by IP, which will be responsible for carrying out the work, took place within the scope of the solemn session Municipality Day of Faro, September 7th, last Thursday.

The creation of this superior passage, recalls the Chamber of Faro, «results from IP's requirement within the scope of the authorization of the Parque Ribeirinho project, which resulted from the agreement to remove the existing level crossing there, signed on September 7, 2020».

At the high, as Sul Informação did it work, the company committed to carrying out and paying for the project, while the municipality assumed the costs of preparing the projects that have now been delivered.

The completion of this work complements the plans that the municipality of Faro has for this area, namely the projects it has to requalify the area south of the railway line, which Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, whether to leave it done or at an advanced stage when this third and final term of office ends.

Taking into account «the nearby environmental and heritage values, as well as the entire surrounding area and existing visual axes», the project has characteristics of «minimalist and low impact architecture, in order to reduce the visual impact on the urban context and image of the place », reads the technical description of the project.

In order to guarantee accessibility and mobility for everyone, «the overpass project will feature ramps and a tray with a minimum profile of 7 meters wide for car circulation, a minimum profile of 2,4 meters for a cycle path and 1,5 meters for an area pedestrian, totaling a total of 10 meters», reveals the Farense municipality.

«Accessible ramps and routes will also have to guarantee access for people with reduced mobility», he adds.

 

 

The proposal submitted to IP envisages the construction of two autonomous structures, «which are located on the railway line».

One of them, the pedestrian and cycling connection, is longer than the other, intended for car traffic, «to guarantee the minimum permissible slopes» for people with mobility difficulties. In total, this platform will be 322 meters long and will start at the central divider on Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian.

The platform intended for road traffic is less extensive and will lead to the roundabout next to the Teatro das Figuras and the Estabelecimento Prisional de Faro.

The project also foresees, in addition to the road, cycling and pedestrian routes, two vertical access areas, next to the old Nursing School and at the entrance to Parque Ribeirinho, which include stairs and elevators.
