Farense lost to Sporting 2-3, in a match on the 7th round of the I Football League, played this Saturday, September 30th, at the S. Luís Stadium. The Algarve team, despite being reduced to 10 players, managed to reach a draw, but a penalty, towards the end, ended up giving the Lisbon team the victory.
With Marco Matias in the 11, to the detriment of Rui Costa, Farense did not have a good start to the game. Sporting started more dominating and soon reached the goal.
In the 18th minute, Gyökeres led a very quick counterattack, crossing to Pote who shot for a cut, with his arm, by Gonçalo Silva. The ball went towards the goal and, in addition to the penalty, the Farense defender was also sent off.
From the kick, the same Gyökeres scored the first for Sporting.
A few minutes later, at 35, Pote scored the second of the Lions, with a great shot, from the edge of the area, which went in close to Ricardo Velho's post.
But Farense didn't lower his arms and, soon after, reduced the score. Mattheus Oliveira took a free kick at the edge of the area and scored a great goal (37′).
In the second half, the Algarve team even managed to equalize… again through Mattheus. With another free kick, the Brazilian midfielder shot into the back of Adán's net (55′).
Farense closed ranks and held on to the advantage almost until the end. At 87′, Edwards fell in the area and the referee awarded a penalty. Gyökeres was once again called upon to convert and he didn't miss, giving the victory to Sporting, who suffered a lot to win.
The Algarve team have the same 6 points and occupy 12th place.
