The village of Cachopo, in the interior of the municipality of Tavira, is inviting the community and visitors to taste its rich gastronomic heritage, in another edition of “Lunch and Dine with Us”, a monthly activity of “Aldeias de Portugal”, which will take place on Sunday, the 24th, at Monte do Grainho, at 10 am.
With the theme “As we bid farewell to Summer, there will be no shortage of tomatoes…”, the initiative will begin by providing visitors with fresh tomato juice, followed by a tour of the vegetable gardens, to discover the various local tomato varieties.
At the end of the walk, Cachopo presents the Winter Tomato, «where, in a very simple way, it is preserved to last and last throughout the winter», reveals the In Loco association, which supports the promotion of this event organized by Group of Cantares de Cachopo, by Quiosque o Moinho – Move e Promove Cachopo, by Nuno Gonçalves and Cátia Dias.
Next, participants will be challenged to put their “hands on the tomatoes”, to learn how to make one of the best delicacies that Cachopo offers: fried tomatoes with eggs”.
From 13pm onwards, a lunch “with tomatoes from start to finish” will be served.
«For starters, some toast drizzled with olive oil and sun-dried tomatoes. This is followed by a beautiful tomato soup, with eggs, ending with a dessert, homemade tomato jam with fresh cheese», according to the organizers.
Participation costs 20 euros for adults and 10 euros for children aged 7 to 12. Children under 6 years old do not pay.
