Leangel Linarez defends leadership on the day the Volta a Portugal returns to the Algarve

Today's stage ends in Loulé, after crossing the Baixo Alentejo

Venezuelan cyclist Leangel Linarez (Tavfer-Ovos Matinados-Mortágua) debuts today in the yellow jersey crossing the south of the country, with the third stage of the 84th Tour of Portugal marking the return of the Algarve.

Winner of the first two stages in a row, Linarez will seek to defend the overall leadership, but also to win the third consecutive victory at the end of the 191,8 kilometers between Sines and Loulé, a city that returns to the Tour route after 20 years of absence.

The start for the third run is given at 12:15 pm, on Avenida Vasco da Gama, in Sines, with the peloton then covering 54,6 kilometers until reaching the first flying goal of the day, in Odemira.

Those of Ourique (102,7) and Almodôvar (131,3) follow, in a journey in which the main difficulty will be the high temperatures that will be felt.

Even so, before arriving at Avenida José da Costa Mealha, in Loulé, around 17 pm, on the return of the race to the Algarve after five years of absence, the cyclists find two mountain counts of the fourth category, in Pico do Mú (25 ,151,2), and on the Assumada Cross (185,3).

The third stage will again be reserved for sprinters, with Linarez paying special attention to the Czech Daniel Babor (Caja Rural), who is second overall, seven seconds behind, a recoverable disadvantage with the bonuses distributed at the end and on the flying targets. The Portuguese Rafael Reis (Glassdrive-Q8-Anicolor) is third, at 10.
