Faro marks International Youth Day with sea test and beach cleaning

The 14th edition of the “Prova de Mar Cidade de Faro” will be the highlight of the celebrations, in the Algarve capital, of the International Youth Day, which is celebrated on the 12th of August.

In front of the Nautical Center of Praia de Faro (CNPF), participants will meet from 8:30 am (when the secretariat will open), in order to participate in this initiative.

The 14th “Test of Sea City of Faro” will include a KIDS Test (at 11:00 am), a Promotion Test (11:30 am), the official test (12:00 pm), ending with the prize giving at 13:00 pm.

The City Council of Faro proposes other actions. Thus, a beach cleaning will take place, seeking to remove rubbish from a space that is one of the faces of the county and to raise awareness among participants and holidaymakers of the need to take care of it. Anyone wishing to join this moment should be at 8:30 am at the CNPF, from where the group will depart at 9:00 am.

Throughout the day, there will also be the possibility to enjoy Canoeing or Stand up Paddle classes. Scheduled times are as follows: 10:00 am, 14:30 pm and 17:00 pm.

At the end of the day, at 19:00 pm, there will be a “Sunset Stand Up Paddle Tour”, at 19:30 pm, it will be the turn of a “Stand up Paddle Fitness” and, between 18:00 pm and 22:00 pm, a DJ will entertain the participants.

In Largo nascent of Praia de Faro (next to the boat pier), between 22:00 and 01:00, there will be a party, with the participation of the group Cave do Bolas / Rua 80 and Dj Nuno Silva, which will have free entry.

All these sports practices are free, for participants from 12 to 35 years old, prior booking is mandatory, until tomorrow, August 10th, to the telephone number 289 870 056, or to the email [email protected].

The municipality of Faro recalls that these are “Active Leisure Activities (autonomy)”, for users with level I, in Canoeing/Stand up Paddle modalities and that only practitioners with experience in the modality will be able to participate without prior appointment.

This day of celebration is an initiative of the Chamber of Faro, Nautical Center and Nautical Station, which has several partners: Parish Council of Montenegro, Cave do Bolas, IPDJ/International Youth Day, Ginásio Clube Naval de Faro, Sê Mais Sê Melhor, Rua FM, Rua 80 and New Loops.

The 12th of August was declared International Youth Day in 1999, following a recommendation resulting from the World Conference of Ministers responsible for Youth, which took place in Portugal in 1998.

Since then, this day has been celebrated worldwide, highlighting the importance of implementing development strategies for this population, which are positive and proactive, centered on their rights, open to diversity and oriented towards innovation, promoting opportunities and building aspirations. .
