Delio Fernandez from AP Hotels-Tavira-Farense lost the Yellow Jersey he had won yesterday, after climbing the Tower, in Serra da Estrela, to the Russian Artem Nych (Glassdrive-Q8-Anicolor), at the end of the 6th stage of the Volta a Portugal, which linked Penamacor to Guarda and was won by the Spaniard Luis Ángel Maté (Euskaltel-Euskadi).

Nych Artem was second, 14 seconds behind the stage winner, who finished the run in 4h24m59s. The third was the Spaniard Iván Cobo (Kern Pharma).

Delio Fernandez finished the stage in 11th position, two minutes and five seconds behind the leader, and dropped to 2nd overall, 27 seconds behind the new Yellow Jersey. The podium, on stage 6, was completed by Colin Stüssi (Voralberg), 30 seconds behind Nych Artem.

With regard to the Algarve contingent, Samuel Blanco, also from AP Hotels-Tavira-Farense (23rd), and Jesus del Pino, from Aviludo – Louletano – Loulé Concelho (25th), were the fastest on the stage, after Delio Fernandez.
