The southern railway line has been cut since 17:00 this Wednesday, July 12th, due to the fire in São Marcos da Serra, municipality of Silves.

The information was Sul Informação by a source from the Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command.

The flames, which broke out at 15:43 pm, are consuming an "area of bush and pine forest".

The means of combat are also being reinforced: there are now 193 firefighters on site, supported by 51 vehicles and 8 aerial means that are being supplied at the Santa Clara dam.

The fire develops in a valley, difficult to access, which is making the work of the operators difficult.

The wind, which «blows moderately», is another obstacle.

National Road 267, which connects São Marcos da Serra to the municipality of Monchique, is closed to traffic.

As for tobacco, it has already reached the coastal area, namely Armação de Pêra, also in the municipality of Silves.
