Elderly woman dies after feeling sick in the water on Santo António beach

An 80-year-old woman died this Wednesday, July 26, in an unsupervised area of ​​Santo António beach, after feeling ill while swimming. 

The alert was received at 11:15, through people who were in that area.

Elements of the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Vila Real de Santo António, elements of the “SeaWatch” Project, of the Volunteer Firefighters of Vila Real de Santo António and of INEM were sent to the site.

Upon arrival at the scene, it was found that the victim, an 80-year-old woman, had been pulled out of the water onto the beach by members of the public, with the lifeguards on the adjacent beach immediately starting resuscitation maneuvers, until the arrival of the elements. from the “SeaWatch” Project, from the Volunteer Firefighters of Vila Real de Santo António and from INEM, who continued the maneuvers.

The victim was transported, in very serious condition, to a hospital, where he eventually died.

The Maritime Police Psychology Office has been activated and is providing support to the victim's family.
