A bluefin tuna weighing 300 kilos was seized by the Maritime Police from four recreational fishermen, who were on a fishing boat on the Gilão River, in Tavira, this morning.
The men, who as recreational fishermen are prohibited by law from catching this species of fish, were also seized four fishing rods and deep-sea reels.
As a result of the inspection action, the elements of the Maritime Police prepared a report and, «as a precautionary measure, the fish was seized and will later be sold at auction, with the value reverting to the process».
Five members of the Tavira Maritime Police Local Command participated in this action, supported by supported by a vessel and two vehicles.
