The conference “D'arte vaia … em retrospective”, intended to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Visual Arts Course at Escola Secundária de Silves, took place on the morning of May 30th, within the scope of the Cultural Week “Artistic Route in Heritage” of the Silves Group of Schools.

Guests were received with performances by secondary school and first cycle students at the entrance to Escola Secundária de Silves, with musical accompaniment by a teacher.

The conference featured testimonials from former students and former and current teachers of the Visual Arts Course, with the launch of 25 postcards and a book alluding to this commemoration.

Speakers included Sara Brighenti, deputy commissioner of the National Arts Plan, Adriana Nogueira, regional director of Culture, Adriana Nogueira, and Luísa Conduto, councilor for Education in Silves.

During the conference, everyone watched the performance of students from EB 1 in São Marcos da Serra, the result of the project “Na Rota da Água”, which is part of the Bienal Cultura Educação, with artistic direction by Rui Afonso.

Continuing with learning about the theme of water, this project began with a visit to the stream where the students collected reeds and, from them, built three types of musical instruments and explored mastery of the instrument from the point of view of sound.

On the 30th, as had already happened in São Marcos da Serra on the 19th of May, they delighted with their creativity and musicality.

The program of this “Artistic Route in Heritage” included exhibitions, artistic installations, performances in the areas of music and dramatic expression, artistic workshops, conferences, lectures.

It involved the entire group and various cultural partners in the territory, promoting the presentation of works that crossed the curriculum, heritage and the various artistic languages.

As part of the mission of the National Arts Plan, a collaboration protocol was signed between Silves City Council and the National Arts Plan.
