The 2nd edition of MOMI – Algarve Physical Theater International Festival runs until the 11th of June, in various venues Faro, with a strong focus on the quality of programming.
In the year in which the 100th anniversary of the birth of the renowned French mime Marcel Marceau, forerunner and ambassador of mime and pantomime in the XNUMXth century, is being celebrated, the festival will mark the occasion with a lecture and show.
The MOMI Festival, organized by JAT – Janela Aberta Teatro, demonstrated, in its first edition, a great growth potential, and asserts itself in this second edition as a reference of Physical Theater at national and international level.
One of the signs of this projection is the number of candidacies, artists and companies that responded to the open call, which climbed the 250 candidate shows, from more than 50 countries.
MOMI – Algarve Physical Theater International Festival 2023 brings the Faro a high quality, diversified program of internationally renowned companies, but also companies on the rise, with a focus on different languages and formulas, for audiences of all ages.
From RoundAround, from Slovakia's Bratislava Puppet Theater, which opens the festival at the Conservatório Regional do Algarve, with a surprising show for children, until smashed2 by the award-winning company Gandini Juggling from the United Kingdom, which closes the festival at Teatro das Figuras, the public will have the opportunity to watch a total of 13 Physical Theater shows, in various venues in the city.
Teatro das Figuras, Teatro Lethes, IPDJ and Auditorio do Conservatório Regional Maria Campina will be programming rooms, but there will also be outdoor shows, at Palco da Doca, Jardim Manuel Bivar and Jardim da Alameda.
The Festival has five premieres in Portugal, and once again gives the public the opportunity to see, and be dazzled by, the company that took Teatro Lethes to the top at MOMI 2021, the Argentinians A Red Poyo.
This edition also has awards for the shows, in two categories: Best Show Award and Audience Award.
Training is also a focus of the organization. During the week of the festival, five workshops will be held in various areas of Physical Theatre, for all ages, from Mimo, to Dance Theatre, through Dramaturgy and the Suzuki Method, to Physical Comedy. These workshops will take place at Atelier do Movimento, at Camada – Centro Coreográfica and at Escola Secundária Tomás Cabreira.
In addition to the shows and workshops, the 2nd edition of MOMI – Festival Internacional de Teatro Físico – Algarve offers some meetings with the artists at the end of the shows and a conference-show that marks the 100th anniversary of Marcel Marceau, with the presence of various personalities and artists who lived with, studied and/or worked with the recognized French pampering.
Outdoor shows are free. The acquisition of tickets for the rest can now be done through BOL, Worten, Fnac and CTT, or directly at the theater box office.
For those who don't want to miss out on this second edition, there is also the MOMI PASS, which is a single ticket that gives access to all shows, with the offer of a festival t-shirt. The MOMI PASS is for sale exclusively on BOL, in momi.bol.pt
