Government approves changes to conditions for completing secondary education

New rules had already been announced in February

The Council of Ministers today approved changes to the conditions for completing secondary education, that had already been announced and which will come into force progressively from the next academic year.

“The decree-law that changes the guiding principles of learning assessment in the curriculum of basic and secondary education has been approved”, announced the Minister of the Presidency, Mariana Vieira da Silva, in a press conference at the end of the Council of Ministers meeting.

In addition to this diploma, an amendment to the legal regime of inclusive education was also approved, which extends the special conditions for classification of tests, until now reserved for students with dyslexia, to all students with any specific language disorder.

The new conditions for completing secondary education, which had already been announced in February, maintain the mandatory national exams, but with a lower weight in the final average and, with the exception of Portuguese, students can choose the two subjects they take the test.
