World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought marked by ICNF

With a session on the 22nd of June, between 14 pm and 00 pm, at the Marim Environmental Education Centre, in Olhão

The Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF) will mark the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, on the 22nd of June, between 14 pm and 00 pm, at the Marim Environmental Education Center (CEAM), in Olhão . 

The session, which also aims to «reinforce the role of women in the sustainable management of the territory», opens at 14 pm with interventions by António Pina, mayor of Olhão, José Apolinário, president of CCDR Algarve, Pedro Coelho, director of the Portuguese Agency for the Environment of the Algarve and António Miranda, Deputy Regional Director of the DRCNF Algarve of the ICNF.

At 15 pm, the presentation of the 00-minute film “Sortes” takes place, dedicated to the “loss of rurality and oral tradition” in the Alentejo and which was considered the best medium-length film at the national film awards in Germany.

At 15:45 it is time for the launch of the book and audiovisual report “Desertification and rural development”, which compiles five case studies of development in depopulated territories – a work carried out in partnership, by the reflection group of the Polytechnic Institute Bragança, National Institute of Investigation Agriculture and Veterinary Science, Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development, Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Municipality of Alcoutim and University of Algarve.

The closing session, scheduled for 16 pm, will be in charge of Alice Teixeira, from CCDESERT, and Osvaldo Gonçalves, vice-president of AMAL, president of the Board of Competences in the Fight Against Desertification and mayor of Alcoutim.
