From gastronomy to literature, Lagos promotes summer events

Between July and September

Music, gastronomy, literature, sport and Algarve traditions will be highlighted in the summer events in Lagos scheduled for the months of July to September. 

In July, the best of street food will be present at Praça do Infante and Jardim da Constitution, in a new edition of Lagos Food Fest (13th to 16th). In the same week, Orquestra do Algarve presents two concerts in the Antigo Preparatory Cycle, more precisely “Cenas d'As Bodas
de Fígaro” (July 14) and “Music in the Shape of a Smile” (July 15), two outdoor shows with Martim Sousa Tavares as conductor.

Another of the highlights of that month will be the 34th edition of the Feira Concurso Arte Doce (July 26th to 30th), an authentic celebration of the creativity and tradition of Algarve confectionery. Among handicrafts, taverns, children's entertainment, showcookings, exhibition of sweet art pieces and many delicacies to taste, this year the headliners are Xutos e Pontapés (26th), Vitor Kley (27th), Álvaro de Luna (28th), Wet Bed Gang (29th) and Carminho (30th).

In August, there will be many literary suggestions at the Lagos Book Fair (5th to 15th), including a program that includes music, dance, games, storytelling sessions and book presentations. Also in Praça do Infante are various genres from all over the
countries such as Croatia, Brazil or Guinea Conakry will be on stage at Lagos World Music (August 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th).

In the parishes, the tradition continues with the 33rd Folklore Festival in Odiáxere (August 5th) and the 19th edition of FETAAL – Algarve Traditions and Arts Fair in Bensafrim (August 11th to 13th).

There is also plenty of entertainment at Cais da Solaria, with the Lagos Summer Fest – Youth Festival on the 26th and 27th of August, with the presence of Pete tha Zouk, Harold and Miguel Azevedo, and the 29th Bath Party with Toy, one of the most beloved traditions in Lagos.

September kicks off with another edition of Noites no Cais in Jardim da Constitution and Cais das Descobertas, with concerts – “Correr o Fado” by Quorum Ballet (1st) and MARO (2nd).

Also in that month, petiscadores have a new mission to discover new flavors in the new edition of Rota do Petisco (September 15th to
October), also marking the European Mobility Week (16 to 22 September), with various activities promoting environmental sustainability and a healthier life.

On the sports side, the sea will be the setting for events such as the Regatta Portos dos Descobrimentos Palos de La Frontera – Lagos (July 7th to 9th), Sailing Tour of the Algarve (July 20th to 22nd), 32nd Race to the Bay of Lagos (Meia Praia, 6th August), which marks the end of the 21st City of Lagos Circuit in Athletics, and the Lagos-Funchal Ocean Regatta (23rd to 28th August).

Cultural associations in Lagos will also have a dynamic summer, with emphasis on Sons e Sabores at the Convent of the Grupo Coral de Lagos (Church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, 11th July to 20th August), Festival MMFest by Orquestra Ligeira de Lagos ( Praia da Luz, 22nd to 26th August), Sons ao Crepúsculo Cycle (concerts on 15th and 23rd July and 30th September) and exhibitions at LAC – Laboratório de Actividades Criativas.
