Portuguese Olympic Committee celebrates protocol with the Town Hall of Vila Real de Santo António

Partnership recognizes "the excellence" of the VRSA High Performance Center

The Olympic Committee of Portugal and the City Council of Vila Real de Santo António signed, this Thursday, in the Salão Nobre of the Paços do Concelho, a protocol through which they undertake to organize initiatives related to the promotion and development of sporting activity and of the Olympic values, within the scope of the Olympic Education Program.

According to the mayor of VRSA, this partnership recognizes «the excellence» of the VRSA High Performance Center and results from the work that is done daily to promote the quality of sport in the municipality.

«We are and want to continue to be the capital of sport and champions, always based on the values ​​of the Olympic education program, which are excellence, respect and friendship», continues Álvaro Araújo.

For the president of the Portuguese Olympic Committee, «this protocol is part of a context of involvement of the Municipal Councils in the Olympic Education Programme, whose fundamental objective is to allow children, of school age, to appropriate the cultural contents that underlie the message. Olympic”.

«I am pleased to see the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António join this project», said José Manuel Constantino, stressing that «the longevity of the VRSA High Performance Center and its constant search for top national and international athletes justify a constant commitment to its projection and promotion».

The ceremony was also attended by Custódio Moreno, regional director of the IPDJ, Ricardo Cipriano, vice-president of the municipality, and the director of the Department of Education and Olympic Memory, Rita Nunes, who presented the Olympic Education Programme.


Ana Cabecinha distinguished for her performance at the London Olympics

Algarve athlete Ana Cabecinha, who currently resides in the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, was distinguished with a Finalist Diploma for the 20-kilometer walk event at the London Olympics in 2012, where she placed 6th, achieving her best mark of the time. The badge was handed over, during the ceremony, by the presidents of the Municipality of VRSA and of the Portuguese Olympic Committee.

 


Olympic Education Program
Created in 2015 by the Portuguese Olympic Committee, the Olympic Education Program has as its main objective to promote Olympism, the Olympic Games, a taste for sports and healthy living habits, through the Olympic values: excellence, friendship and respect.
It is an educational program that aims to contribute to the training of children and young people, through a motivating and fun approach, for the transmission of knowledge about the Olympic movement, its values, symbols, modalities and athletes, while promoting learning. in different disciplinary areas.
The Olympic Education Program already has 281 schools, 921 teachers and 208.485 students involved.
