European Commission came to Olhão to learn about MOJU projects

Visit was attended by João Paiva, representative of the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission

A representative of the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission was in Olhão last week to visit the facilities of the Mais Sucesso E8G project, which MOJU – Associação Movimento Juvenil em Olhão is developing in Bairro Fundo Fomento housing, with the support of European funds.

The purpose of the visit to the premises of the youth association from Olhão "was through contact on the ground with good practices developed under Axis 6 - Affirming Social and Territorial Cohesion, with funding under the CRESC Algarve 2020", according to MOJU.

MOJU representatives made known the Most Successful E8G Project, «promoted within the scope of the 8th Generation of the Escolhas Programme, in the field of social inclusion of children and young people, with implementation in the municipality of Olhão».

«This project is part of a consortium made up of a series of reference entities at municipal and regional level, which propose to develop a series of initiatives in order to meet the needs of children and young people, and their families, socioeconomically disadvantaged in the municipality of Olhão», according to the association.

 

 

The visit was also used to make an overview of MOJU's work over these more than 15 years of intervention in Olhão and beyond, «with a focus on the various projects developed, evaluation indicators and results obtained since its constitution».

In addition to João Paiva, representative of the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission, Aquiles Marreiros from CCDR Algarve, Nathalie Santos and António Travassos from the Operational Program CRESC Algarve 2020, councilors Elsa Parreira and Ricardo Calé from the Municipality of Olhão, Rui Gabriel, President of the Parish Council of Olhão, and Rui Dinis, coordinator of the Lisbon, South and Islands Zone of the Escolhas Programme, .

The project consortium was also represented on this visit, namely by the regional director for the Algarve of the IPDJ Custódio Moreno, by the agents Hélio Gonçalves and Fábio Gonçalves from the PSP in Olhão, by Mónica Fernandes from the Dr. Alberto Iria and Maria Faustino from the Dr. Francisco Fernandes Lopes.

MOJU was created in 2007 and is a non-profit youth association whose objectives are to promote the active participation of young people in society and their personal and social development, developing projects in the social, educational, sports and cultural areas.
