Portimão birth and pediatrics block closed, plan for the summer will be revised

The birth and pediatric emergency room at the Hospital de Portimão will be closed this weekend and, until Sunday, June 4th, the «contingency plan for the summer months» will be reviewed. 

The information was released this Thursday, July 1, by the Executive Directorate of the National Health Service (SNS), after a meeting at the Hospital de Portimão, with the CHUA, clinical management and directorates of the Gynecology/Obstetrics and Pediatrics services. /CHUA Neonatology, Algarve Regional Health Administration and National Institute of Medical Emergencies.

In relation to the closure of the birth and pediatric emergency block until Sunday, denounced by the PSD/Algarve in a note sent to the press, the Executive Directorate says that it was already “foreseen”

Until Sunday, guarantees the same entity, «the contingency plan for the summer months will be reviewed» and disclosed «in accordance with the need to preserve the highest safety and quality criteria, avoiding any risk situation for pregnant women or women children, as well as for the activities of professionals".

The National Institute of Medical Emergencies remains on standby, reinforcing the response, in accordance with the established contingency plan.

«Due to the limitation of pediatric medical human resources, as a result of absences due to parenting and unforeseen circumstances due to illness, the availability of the institution's professionals and the opening of resources from other hospitals in the SNS network are being reassessed, in order to maintain a structured and consistent response during the summer seasonal period», concludes the SNS note.
