Blue and Accessible Beaches flags have already been hoisted in Albufeira

«Albufeira is an inclusive destination that is doing everything to ensure that, in the coming years, the Accessible Beach Flag is hoisted in all classified bathing areas», says mayor

This Friday, June 2nd, the municipality of Albufeira hoisted the 25 Blue Flags at the main entrance to the sand and the 14 of the Accessible Beaches, as well as the flag at the city's Marina, which was once again distinguished with the award of excellence.

Regarding the Praia Acessível flags, José Carlos Rolo, mayor, stresses that «Albufeira is an inclusive destination that is doing everything it can to ensure that, in the coming years, the Praia Acessível Flag is hoisted in all classified bathing areas» .

The beaches classified as “Accessible Beach” are Salgados, Galé Oeste, Galé Leste, Manuel Lourenço, Peneco, Pescadores, Inatel,
Alemães, Oura, Santa Eulália, Maria Luísa, Olhos de Água, Rocha Baixinha and Rocha Baixinha Nascente: all with Tiralô equipment, which allow access to the bath for people with reduced mobility, as well as Chairs/walkers for walking.

In addition to these distinctions, the Municipality highlights the municipality's leadership by ensuring 21 "Gold Quality" beaches awarded by QUERCUS, and six ZERO Pollution beaches, awarded by the environmental association ZERO, with Albufeira being the municipality in the country with the most beaches ZERO Pollution.

The symbolic Ceremony of Raising the Blue Flag and Praia Acessível began on one of the most emblematic beaches on the urban front of the
municipality, at Praia dos Pescadores, and was attended by the mayor, members of the Executive, presidents of the Boards of
Parish, representatives of the Maritime Authority, GNR, ANSA, Albufeira Volunteer Firefighters, technicians and director of APA-ARH, Albufeira Health Center and ACES Central, the candidate for RTA, among several municipal officials.

The mayor thanked everyone for their presence, especially the entities that, throughout the year, work with the municipality to reach these levels, in terms of cleaning the beach and the quality of the bathing areas, as well as the safety of the beach.

«The Algarve and Albufeira, in particular, is a planted paradise by the sea that we all have to know how to preserve so that we continue to be a tourist destination of choice», says the mayor.

The president of the APA, in turn, congratulated the Municipality for the leadership achieved, underlining that «it is not just the number of awards that is important, it is also necessary to ensure the quality of the water, hence the importance of continuing to articulate with the entities responsible in this matter”.

Pedro Coelho also highlighted that the Geodiversity theme, chosen for the Blue Flag 2023, is very appropriate for Albufeira, which has very important values in the Geopark project. The official also referred to the problem of the cliffs, which have undergone constant interventions to avoid the danger of collapse – «this year alone there were 14 mass movements, two of which in Albufeira»; he said.

At the same time, he took the opportunity to talk about the issue of drought and lack of water, which this year are 5% worse than last year.

Cristiano Cabrita, vice-president responsible for the Environment and the Sea, stressed that he was very happy that, once again, the beaches of Albufeira stand out, «not only for their beauty, but also for their environmental quality».
