Balcão Único de Olhão «seeks to overcome intermittence» of the Civil Registry Office

Espaço Cidadão provides citizen card renewal services, driving license revalidations and requests for change and address confirmation of the citizen card, among others.

The Citizens' Space of the Balcão Único of the Municipality of Olhão has sought to "make up for the intermittency of the services provided by the Civil Registry Office", which are due "mainly, to difficulties with human resources", revealed the Olhão Council.

Balcão Único “has assumed an important role in providing services to citizens, especially with regard to requests for renewal of the citizen card”.

According to Catarina Poço, councilor responsible for Citizen Assistance, «although the Civil Registry Office and the Balcão Único are two autonomous and independent services, provided by the Central and Local Administration, respectively, it is important that people from Olhão know that there are a number of matters that can be dealt with at Balcão Único, without the need to travel».

The Balcão Único of the Municipality of Olhão registered, in 2022, 16.033 attendances, an increase of around 53% compared to the previous year.

With regard to the Citizens' Space, it provides services for renewal of the citizen's card, revalidation of the driving license and requests for change and confirmation of address of the citizen's card.

Balcão Único opened its doors on February 6, 2012, as part of the administrative modernization measures of the municipality, with the aim of increasingly simplifying the lives of residents.

In the same space, at the main entrance of the Paços do Concelho building, a large part of the service related to Social Action, Environment and Public Health, Economic Activities, Tax Offenses and Foreclosures, Culture and Tourism, Sports and Youth, Rights and Citizenship, Education, Public Spaces and Advertising, Spatial Planning, Urban Rehabilitation, Transport, Mobility and Traffic and Urban Planning.

Since July 2019, it has also made available the services of the first Citizen Space to come into operation in the municipality, providing citizens with mediated assistance from a wide range of Central Administration services, such as renewing their driving license or identity card. citizen, request a new password or a property booklet from the Tax Authority, submit expenses to the ADSE, deal with matters relating to employment and professional training, request the European Health Insurance Card or carry out e-invoice services.
