More than half a ton of drugs seized off the coast of the Algarve

In a joint operation by the National Maritime Authority, the Portuguese Navy and the Portuguese Air Force

The National Maritime Authority, the Portuguese Navy and the Portuguese Air Force seized 16 bales of hashish, weighing around 560 kg, as part of a joint operation in international waters in the south of Portugal, which takes place on the night of this Thursday, 1 June. 

According to the authorities, during the operation, "suspicious movements of two vessels related to drug trafficking were monitored, which were detected and pursued".

During the chase, the suspects on board the high-speed boats threw all the drugs into the sea, after which 16 bales of hashish were collected.

The operation involved a Navy ship, nautical resources operated by Marines and resources from the National Maritime Authority, operated by the Maritime Police, and an aircraft from the Portuguese Air Force.

The drug was taken to the local command of the Maritime Police of Faro and delivered to the Judiciary Police.
